    Washington U.S. Attorney Nick Brown Resigns Before State Election: Mr. Nick Brown, the United States Attorney for Washington, announced that he would resign effective immediately before the state election.     On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Nick Brown announced that he would resign amid expectations that he will seek the office of state attorney general.

    Hope to return to public service; confident that the U.S. The Attorney’s Office will continue its excellent work under the career attorneys and professional staff who assisted me during my time in office,” Brown announced in a news release announcing his resignation, effective June 21.

    While serving as U.S. attorney, Brown has not announced plans to run for the office of Washington Attorney General, who launched an exploratory governorship campaign a day after Gov. Inslee announced that he would not seek a fourth term.

    Before becoming a U.S. attorney, Brown handled complex civil, regulatory, public policy, and other matters for public and private clients at Pacifica Law Group in Seattle.

    His service as Inslee’s counsel was from 2013 to 2017, assisting the Governor as he navigated a complicated set of issues, including the moratorium imposed by Inslee in 2014 on the death penalty and tension with the federal government after Washington and Colorado legalized the sale of recreational marijuana.

    It was in 2021 that the U.S. Senate confirmed Brown for the position of United States Attorney for Western Washington, which made him Western Washington’s first Black U.S. Attorney.

    Brown’s work as a United States attorney focused on civil rights, the fentanyl crisis, gun crime, and human trafficking. As part of his work establishing a cybercrime unit, he was instrumental in prosecuting six defendants accused of filing fraudulent aid applications and receiving over $3.3 million from the program.

    A Washington native and Army veteran, Brown served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps between 2003 and 2007 at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Baghdad, Iraq. 

    As a result of his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 2005. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he holds a law degree.

    “Being a U.S. attorney has been a longtime professional dream of mine, and I was extremely honored and particularly humbled to be selected for the position,” Brown said in an interview. As a result of the work, we have accomplished over the last couple of years.

    Among Brown’s goals for running for Washington Attorney General is to fight corporate corruption, expand criminal justice reform, and protect Washingtonians from consumer fraud. She is committed to providing quality legal representation to those who cannot afford it and protecting all Washingtonians’ rights. 

    Additionally, she will work to ensure that Washingtonians have access to the courts and can seek justice regardless of their income level. 

    It is Brown’s commitment to end abuses of power and to push for a criminal justice system that is fair and equal to all people, regardless of race, gender, or religious beliefs. 

    Additionally, she will protect the environment by standing up for our air, water, and wild areas.
